"Oommen Chandy: A Trailblazing Leader and Two-Time Chief Minister of Kerala"


Oommen Chandy, a revered senior member of the Congress party and twice-elected chief minister of Kerala, gently left us in Bangalore early on Tuesday morning. His son chandy Oommen posted the information on Facebook.


His wife, Maryamma, and children Maria Oommen, Chandy Oommen, and Achu Oommen make up his family. Oommen simply stated, "He has left us," in a message on his Facebook page.


The state administration has proclaimed today and the following two days as public holidays in remembrance of the previous Chief Minister's service. The Mahatma Gandhi University has likewise postponed all of its July 18 exams.


Chandy was a rare leader who didn't put up walls around himself and had faith in being among the people, which was a big factor in his popularity.


Chandy made the decision to stick with state politics despite having strong ties to the national Congress leadership during his political career. 


In a Bangalore hospital, his adventure came to a close. Condolence gatherings will be held at the Secretariat and the Congress headquarters on Wednesday after Chandy's lifeless remains are transported to Thiruvananthapuram and lodged at his home.


His ancestor's ancestral house in Puthuppally will host the funeral rites before the body is transported to Kotayam on Thursday.
Chandy, a devoted member of the Congress, presided over Kerala as its chief minister twice, from 2004 to 2006 and subsequently from 2011 to 2016. In addition, he served as Minister of Labor, Finance, and Home Affairs under the administrations of K Karunakaran and AK Antony, as well as Leader of the Opposition from 2006 until 2011.


In 1970, Chandy was elected to his first MLA position in the Puthuppally Assembly, beginning a 53-year political career that was firmly based in the Congress narrative.
